About Us
Changes & Beyond is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, focused on two key initiatives: inmate rehabilitation and youth development.
Road to Manhood Youth Program
The Road to Manhood program serves young males in grades 2-12, offering mentorship and life skills development that fosters personal growth and character building. Focused on key principles such as responsibility, leadership, and emotional intelligence, the program provides participants with positive role models and a structured environment where they can learn to navigate the challenges of adolescence. The goal is to empower young men with the tools they need to thrive as they transition into adulthood.
Inmate Counseling and Rehabilitation Program
Changes & Beyond takes a holistic approach to helping incarcerated individuals within jails and Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) prisons overcome a range of barriers. These barriers often include a lack of job skills and employment history, health issues, low literacy levels, financial challenges, and other obstacles that make reintegration into society difficult. Through personalized counseling, vocational training, educational support, and life skills development, the program addresses these critical areas, providing inmates with the resources and tools needed to overcome their challenges. By focusing on rehabilitation that targets both the individual’s personal and professional growth, Changes & Beyond helps reduce recidivism and supports successful reintegration.
Through both its inmate rehabilitation services and youth mentorship initiatives, Changes & Beyond is committed to promoting lasting change and empowerment for individuals across all stages of life.

Participants will also benefit from guest speakers who provide valuable insights into various career paths, personal experiences, and success strategies.

INMATE REHABILITATION PROGRAM
Changes & Beyond’s Inmate Rehabilitation Program offers a unique blend of mentorship, counseling, and holistic resources to individuals currently incarcerated in Michigan’s correctional facilities. Developed by Mr. Ralph Cunningham, based on decades of experience working with men and women trying to rebuild their lives after up to 40 years of incarceration, the program is designed to address the deep-rooted challenges faced by long-term inmates.
This approach emphasizes one-on-one mentorship to provide emotional support and guidance, helping individuals navigate the difficult path toward personal transformation. The program also offers tailored counseling services that address critical issues such as trauma, mental health, and behavioral change, alongside holistic resources that focus on developing life skills, education, and vocational training. By addressing the physical, psychological, environmental, financial, and social barriers faced by incarcerated individuals, the program equips participants with the tools needed to successfully reintegrate into society and reduce recidivism.
The People of Change Program meets every Tuesday at 6 PM (Starting 10/22/24), offering a holistic approach to support individuals on their path to success. This program is a good fit for individuals that have been released from incarceration are on parole or probation or simply are looking for support to move forward. We focus on the whole person, providing personalized referrals, access to vital resources, reentry assistance, and help with securing employment. In addition to practical support, we offer counseling, mentorship, and access to clothing and essential items, ensuring that every aspect of our participants’ well-being is addressed. Our mission is to empower individuals through comprehensive guidance and community support.
